A trident is a three-pronged spear. The trident is the weapon of Poseidon, or Neptune, the God of the Sea in classical mythology.
Trident is called trishul in Hindi.
The trishul symbolism is polyvalent and rich. It is wielded by the god Shiva and is said to have been used to sever the original head of Ganesha. Durga also holds a trishula, as one of her many weapons.
