About the print:

Durga, (Sanskrit: “the Inaccessible”) in Hinduism, is a principal form of the Goddess, also known as Devi and Shakti.

Navratri or Durga Puja is celebrated for 9 days. On the 10th day, Dussehra is celebrated.

This print comes all the way from Kolkata. It was clicked during Durga Puja 2017 in Bosepukur Sitala Mandir Durgotsab Committee pandal. They are very famous for the gracious Maa Durga idol at their pandals. It was created with PVC pipes.

Durga Puja experience in Kolkata is one of a kind. The sound of intense beats coming from the dhak mixed with the aroma of the dhunuchi lit in every house, park or corner fills the streets of Kolkata. The pandals created by the committees are creatively designed and are theme based. The pandals compete for winning the best pandal of the year.

As per Hindu scriptures, the festival marks the victory of goddess Durga in her battle against the shape-shifting asura, Mahishasura. Thus, the festival epitomizes the victory of good over evil, though it is also in part a harvest festival celebrating the goddess as the motherly power behind all of life and creation. Durga puja coincides with Navratri and Dussehra celebrations observed by other traditions of Hinduism, in which the Ram Lila dance-drama is enacted, celebrating the victory of Rama against Ravana, and effigies of Ravana are burnt.
